About

Larry Larsen is an artist/photographer. He graduated from San Francisco State University in 1967. He worked as a Boilermaker welder for 30 years. He is now retired and able to follow his true passion in fine art. He has shown paintings and ceramic sculpture at numerous museums and galleries. One of his paintings received a "Best of Show" award at the Center for Contemporary Art Annual competition in 1990. Larry learned how to turn on a computer in 2000, then he began learning Photoshop 5, acquired a digital camera and never looked back. He learned that digital photography is very liberating and wide open for experimentation. He has made Photoshop composites and he has played with HDR. He now uses Photoshop primarily, for enhancement in tonality and color.

Every day is a new challenge.

My Work

Near sighted and blurry

Myopia 20/20 is an oxymoron, a joke and at the same time, an element of truth.  All things exist in a state of contradiction, an ever changing flow of images and ideas.

I started this blog to exhibit my new work.  I will process and publish work and solicit comments from viewers. This is a way of learning and growth.

I have been taking photo strolls around the neighborhood where I live.  I am trying to show the commonly seen with new eyes.

Columbia River

A good Northwest day, rain, fog and water. This was taken from the Amtrak train on the way to Eugene to see Sam Abell’s photographs of the Amazon River at the University of Oregon.

Another view of Mount Rainier

I have been working on a series of photographs, “36 Views of Mount Rainier”. This is an example.

I am inspired by the great Japanese artist, Hokusai, who made two series of ukiyo-e wood cuts of Mt. Fuji.

Blue Hour Smoke

Fromberg, Montana

Here is a Walker Evans look alike that I photographed in 2004. I don’t think that Walker Evans came to Montana, but if he had, he would have liked this building.
